I recommend and practice stretching every day, not only when I get up but sometimes between classes, whether I teach or receive them. Although it sounds like a paradox, to be able to stretch the first thing you have to have is laziness.

It is good to laze in bed, stretch little by little to get out of sleep with pleasure, yawn, rub your eyes and skin, feel how the body distributes energy between each relaxation and contraction.

Start the day with strength and full physical capacity

In China it is said that there are as many types of Tai Chi as there are families; Someone would say that as many as animals, since each animal has a built-in way of moving slowly to stretch and get its muscles ready for the day.

As we have forgotten it, it is sometimes convenient to remember it and feel it again. And it is that recovering the stretching is like recovering our particular chi (energy) in a natural way. In fact, we often see children stretching; let’s stop to observe them instead of quickly grabbing them if they are small or yelling at them to get up if they are older.

The minutes after waking up determine our physical attitude and mood during the day. You have to notice how good it feels to stretch and yawn, become aware of our well-being, our body, muscles and breathing. It can be done easily with instinctively built-in exercises.

How should you get up

Stripping is like a natural warm-up routine that prevents cramps or injury. It improves the cardiovascular system and activates the anticoagulant capacity in the cardiovascular system, causing the small clots that formed during the night to dissolve naturally.

The routine when getting up should be:

  1. When you wake up, do not run to get up: change your position 2 or 3 times and spend a few seconds in each one, frolicking, reactivating the body.
  2. Then, sitting up in bed and then getting up, continue stretching at ease. It begins by stretching the arms, tensing the spine and stretching it from the tips of the toes; the breath becomes deep and the yawn comes out spontaneous, with a sense of placidity and relaxation that lifts the spirits and generates optimism. It is an ideal training to start the day with energy and full physical capacity.

The therapeutic effect of stretching

It has been seen that a sudden awakening that cuts off sleep and forces you to get up produces fibromyalgic pain that improves when you regain your natural awakening, frolic and stretching.
