7 Ideas To Clean The House Without Chemicals

To enjoy a clean and healthy home, it is not necessary to resort to harsh chemicals. In fact, these products put us in contact with toxic agents. Natural solutions are more recommended.
Cleaning

We should not become obsessed with disinfecting every corner of the house and using the most aggressive means. It is true that during the pandemic we have learned the importance of washing our hands and cleaning surfaces, but exposure to environmental bacteria and viruses is necessary for immune function, especially in children.

Of course, this does not mean, far from it, that we should forget about hygiene, but we have to do it sensibly.

The basic advice is that, in general, contact with the soil, plants and domestic animals with good veterinary control is beneficial. At home, hygiene is precise, but it is not necessary to resort to chemicals that may contain toxic ingredients or endocrine disruptors that are detrimental to the balance of the hormonal system.

To carry out a correct cleaning of the home, the following ideas may be useful to you.

1. Ambient with coffee beans

Some chemicals commonly used in commercial air fresheners can trigger allergies or interfere with the endocrine system.

  • A natural alternative is to place a bowl full of ground coffee beans in areas that may smell bad (shoe rack, dog or cat spot, bathroom drains, etc.). Coffee beans act as a filter capable of absorbing smelly gaseous molecules.
  • Other solutions are to vaporize or place essential oil diffuser sticks.

2. Clean windows with a homemade formula

You can make a glass cleaner as effective as commercial ones in just a few minutes:

  • Mix 50 ml of cleaning vinegar, half a teaspoon of liquid natural soap (you can also make it yourself), and two cups of water in a spray bottle.

With this glass cleaner you will remove dirt and it will evaporate quickly without leaving streaks.

3. Alternative to dryer sheets

Dryer wipes are used to make clothes smell better, to soften them and to eliminate static electricity that causes sparks when we touch. But these wipes contain chemicals.

An alternative that can be made at home is to wrap wool around a ball of cork, which is left in the dryer. When wool touches clothing, it softens it and eliminates static charge.

4. Antibacterial treatment in the kitchen

Cleaning products such as bleach or products containing antibiotic agents should not be used unless absolutely necessary. For most bathroom and kitchen needs the following two-step treatment can be performed:

  1. Clean the surface with soapy water.
  2. Then spray it with concentrated cleaning vinegar (5 to 6 percent acidity).

5. Eliminate bad smell from carpets

Carpets tend to accumulate bad odors, and dry cleaning treatments are often expensive and can leave behind chemical residues. They are also aggressive with the fabric.

A natural alternative is as simple as sprinkling the rug with baking soda (in generous amounts). Let it rest for an hour and then vacuum normally.

6. To clean and unclog pipes

If the bad smell is coming from the pipes or they no longer drain quickly, try this solution:

  1. Pour 200 g of baking soda down the drain.
  2. Then add 100 ml of cleaning vinegar. The two ingredients will react and facilitate the breakdown of the dirt that is clogging the drain.
  3. After 10-15 minutes, pour a liter of boiling water to wash away the dirt and disinfect the pipe (if the drain is made of plastic, the water should not come to a boil).

7. Eliminate black mold in the bathroom

The mold that forms in the corners of the shower has to be removed immediately (in fact, it is best to prevent its appearance with good ventilation and drying the water after showering).

  1. Fill a 500 ml spray bottle with cleansing vinegar and add 30 drops of tea tree essential oil.
  2. Shake it and spray the affected area. Wait half an hour and then rinse with a warm area.
  3. If the mold has not disappeared, repeat the spray and after 10 minutes begin to scrub the stains with a brush.
